A few weeks ago I was invited to a house warming party of some good friends of ours and was left with the continual dilemma of what to give them as a gift.
Homes are so personal and it’s easy to enforce your own taste when looking for gifts but nothing says you care more than a personal gift as opposed to some voucher or electrical appliance.
In the end we did in fact go for one of these no-brainer options but we did put in a little touch of craftiness in the shape of a handmade card* (see below).
The party was a great success and they have transformed the place into a perfect home. It’s warm and welcoming rooms were as lovely as their owners and helped take the edge off me and him indoors jealousy for a short while.
It also helped me regain focus on what items I would like to start producing on a more regular basis. Gone are the fashion accessories, bags and hats and instead I really want to focus on the word HOME.
Perhaps it was sewing the word on the card or IKEA’s new campaign but I am definitely in the nest building frame of mind and feel that the right soft furnishings and finishing touches can turn any room into a place you want to spend a lot of time.
From the kitchen to the lounge there’s so many things that can make a real difference to where you live and, having previously dabbled in interior design, I figured it was time to combine this side of me with my craftiness.

I’m at the age where the vast majority of my friends are buying their first homes or getting married and scarily that doesn’t bother me. Only inspire me and that’s got to be a good thing! Right?
