    Nesting

    Fabric Nests

As I mentioned in my previous post, I included one of my fabric nests in my owl swap and, as it was the only one I had, I thought I should get back into them. Personally I much prefer my leather and wool nests (kindly modelled by an owl here) but I need to wait on new wires to make more of those, so decided to get on with the more ’shabby chic’ fabric ones. I made these 2 on Wednesday and another one (white with black flowers) yesterday afternoon. They’re still a work in progress but I think the random sizing and look is what’s so nice about them (nests aren’t uniform!) and I’ve also been making some small clay eggs to go with them (though they’re also great for keys, coins, earrings, paper clips) so at least I’ve been keeping busy while resting.

    My new friend

    Fabric Owl Close up

This little cutie is my new friend and latest creation. I have been feeling down in the dumps despite being signed off work for the week to try and shift this damn pleurisy as, while a week off sounds bliss, it’s not quite so magic when you can’t do things like go round the shops, take a walk etc. So, stuck indoors for 7 days means I truly have no excuse not to get on with some crafting (between naps and biscuit munching of course).

The first thing on my list was to make an owl for Apryl’s Owl Swap over at Meridian Ariel. I had already picked up a trio of ceramic owls and a cute little vanity pouch but I needed to include something handmade so had a hunt for a basic owl tutorial. I hit a winner with the Abraham Owl pattern at Lolly Chops and set to it.

I used an old pair of cords and an old sweater that were sitting in my ‘must use one day’ pile and must say I really love the colour combo, especially with the chunky blue squircle button eyes. I’m a bit annoyed I didn’t get round to giving him any feet but his lovely fat belly keep him upright just fine. For more piccies of him basking in the sun of this week you can see him on my flickr.

I also added a little owl doodle I did (see below) and one of my fabric nests (more in next post).

Glasgow Craft Mafia Social – February

    Woe

As you can see from my posts over the last few weeks, I’ve hardly been the picture of health. Things have got a bit worse and the docs now think it’s developed into pleurisy(!). Suffice to say I’m stressed out my tiny mind hoping I’ll be well enough for things like glacier hikes, temple visiting …oh and getting married(!) in the next few weeks so am doing my best to rest up and fight this thing.

Unfortunately it means posts here are less frequent than I’d have liked but them’s the breaks. You can always follow my whining on Twitter.

    Glasgow Twestival – 12th February

From 5.30pm on Thursday the 12th of February, Sith Cafe (459 Dumbarton Road, Partick, G11 6EJ) will be raising money for charity:water by hosting the first ever Glasgow Twestival.

Joining cities all over the world in fundraising and having a good time the Glasgow Twestival offers a range of lovely things:

    - Wonderful home-baking, for which they will request modest donations…

    - Knitting lessons for those of you who want to learn

    - Crafty options for those who don’t do knitting

    - Board games for those who are neither knitty nor crafty…

    - A raffle – with everything from Miso Funky goodies to a bottle of Grouse up for grabs.

    - Live music all through the evening – Jakey T will be just one of the performers

And finally…you know that game where you pay your money and guess the number of sweets in the jar? Well, they are going to do it with knitting – their regular knitters will be sponsored to knit baby hats all through the evening, and you can pay to guess the final number. When they close at 10pm they’ll see who guessed right! (the money will go to charity:water and the hats will be donated to a local charity).

It’s a twestival with a difference. Come along, relax, chat, meet new people, have a laugh, listen to music, eat, and raise money for charity. It’s gonna be a fun evening whether you knit or not!

Tickets are now on sale for the Glasgow event at a bargainous £5 and can be bought online here.
